why i hate lent...

i hate lent because it is hard to stick to it. and by 'stick to it', i don't mean it is hard to give up something for forty days, but that it is hard to really get the point. if the goal is to daily prepare your heart and mind for easter by sacrificing a common element of your life, then i miss the point pretty quickly by simply adjusting my common elements to the point where they are no longer missed. for example, if you give up coke for lent, after a couple of cokeless days, you get used to not having coke. so the void is no longer a void... and there you have it. once again i miss the point.

therefore i suggest giving up something for lent that will truly be missed, and no matter how long you go, you will never get used to it not being a part of your life... such as:

  • bathing
  • digestion (seriously... think about it)
  • speaking
  • my mom's cooking
  • quoting napoleon dynamite
  • blinking
  • air conditioning
  • verbs
  • sleep
  • canes
  • u2
  • dr pepper
  • christmas eve
  • txtng
  • 'your mama' jokes
  • nick and jessica
  • the junkyard taboo
  • braveheart
  • the internet
  • dogs
  • the two guys on the sonic commercials
  • the boogeyman
  • CAPITAL LETTERS
  • left turns
  • ryan seacrest (more b/c i just want him gone... even if just for 40 days)
  • flossing (oh wait...)
  • hitting snooze
  • anything LSU
  • will ferrell
  • eye contact
  • bluebell
  • people from central
  • the opposite sex
  • dumb blogs with stupid bullet point lists

what would you add to this list? hit the comment button and let me know...

driving...how spoiled are we? i don't think i could ever get used to depending on someone else to pick me up and take me everywhere i wanted to go...since i have been "transportationally independent" since i was 15 years old. i would become very irritated after one day...let alone 40 days. and yet, i know a few people who have no other choice than to wait for others who are willing to help out. humbling?

i hate lent b/c it is always so hard to get out of my belly button. And, it is a wonder that my dryer doesn't catch on fire with all the lent it has--I sometimes forget to clean the lent tray.
